However, large window panes also mean room temperatures reaching high levels at times. After having launched a European invitation to tender for installing glass foils, the European Parliament ended up choosing Luxafoil NV/SA in Sint-Niklaas. In winter time the foil reflects the interior heat that usually goes lost through large glass panes, back into the room. Thermal insulation is considerably improved, as a result of which savings of up to 30% can be achieved on fuel costs.
This allows temperatures to increase by 2 to 4°C. This is why the foil is also installed on the northern side of a building.
The foil is affixed to the inner side of the window, but the clear view is totally preserved.
